Reblogging this because I’m having a bit of a pickle. Yes, that is my iBook G4, and we’re currently playing Diablo II with it.
I promised myself that the next big purchase (big = something above $350 because I’d thrifty like that) I’d make is a downpayment for my own house/apartment, or having our minivan fixed. I told myself that I have a decent desktop PC, a 2001 iBook G4 (that runs on OS Leopard, so I don’t have new apps but Adobe programs work well with it), and a working SE Walkman phone (for texts, calls, and mp3s), a Canon EOS400D with kit and 50mm lenses (which I rarely use, hello brother who takes out things from my room without any warning) and that I don’t need any expensive upgrades yet. If anything, I think I need a tablet and a replacement kit lens (again, hello brother :( ). Obviously, I’m not super techy and I really don’t need updates.
Admittedly, I’ve been one of the first people to buy nicer-than-college-faire gadgets by myself (this was after 2007, when the ratio of laptops in the university was 1 for 20 students) and I bought most of these second-hand, and my things feel old. Well, older than my friends’ iPads and iPhones that I keep on seeing in Facebook. Now don’t get me wrong - I’m not jealous of them having all these stuff, I just feel that all my things are relatively un-shiny and that I need a major tech overhaul.
I guess this is one of those want vs. need dilemmas. I know I should update someday soon (I heard Mac is ditching Intel and has released Lion already, and we want to try out video), but these things are definitely not in my list right now. Maybe when I get that house.
